I opened over 5 projects in the last year. Responses are slow (1-3 weeks for each task/update) & the answers/recommendations made are so high level. I found myself completing the projects on my own. Great concept. Poor execution. For context I work for one of the largest enterprise tech companies & this benefit is a part of our benefits. I could do without it.

My wife had a significant stroke that rendered her completely disabled and required us to coordinate a lot of care with our insurance company. Having no experience whatsoever with medical insurance, we brought on Wellthy to help us. It was very much a mistake. Although the promise of what they offer is wonderful, the actual results were anything but.

Anyone who has had to deal with medical insurance knows that the system is difficult to navigate and almost designed to make you give up. Hiring a company that claims to specialize in this area, I expected them to understand the system and advocate for us. They did not.

Instead I continuously got back what they were told by a random insurance representative without them questioning it. Perhaps Wellthy staff should check the history of their own comments before making new ones? “Congratulations, representative X said this is covered by your plan”, followed a few weeks later by “since this is not covered by your plan…” No recognition that they were contradicting themselves.

Once I started to understand the insurance system it became obvious that they really didn’t. An ‘Insurance Specialist’ took weeks to months to figure out that we need pre-authorization for a service - that is basic knowledge.

Then last month I received a survey on how I thought Wellthy was doing and gave gentle but critical feedback. I received an email with the classic response - ‘thank you so much for your feedback, we will endeavor to do better’. And then a few weeks later, a letter that we were fired as clients.

To add insult to injury, the email blamed us, saying that we were asking for legal and medical advice beyond their scope, which is a complete lie and patently ridiculous. We have a healthcare attorney and I am a medical provider - we would not need either.

What actually happened is obvious - Wellthy does not have the systems in place to handle what it claims to do. Anything beyond a few simple tasks gets lost and confusing for them. I tried to hold them to something close to their advertised level of service, and they were unable to do it. They could have just apologized and admitted their shortcoming; instead they tried to gaslight us and blame the victims.

The front line person we dealt with clearly cared and wanted to help but didn’t have the tools. The rest of the company up the chain decided that it was ethical to fire a disabled person in need with absolutely no discussion and no warning. They made a cold hearted, corporate calculation that my wife was costing them more than they were making.

They should be ashamed of themselves.
